Rhoads Family turns down museum!
NO Museum!! Word comes from Kelle Rhoads via telephone thursday afternoon. Kelly Garni was turned down by the Rhoads family to host a Museum. No reason was given so another Randy Rhoads let down ie: No Film, No Museum!. I think Kathy and Mrs.Rhoads gave it the AXE.

Sort of strange that Kelle would turn it down. He was sitting with Kelly Garni in the video when they mentioned the museum. Would have been nice to see whatever they would have had in there.

As long as the boxed-set doesn't get canceled. :P

how does no film go with no museum? Do you mean Peter's doc? which is done now, btw. Sorry I don't see how they relate to each other? Delores never wanted a Hendrix circus for Randy and a museum leans towards that. I was surprised when they said there would be one. Also not in the greatest of areas it would not be safe and there is no way anything would be safe on display. Displaying his stuff would be asking someone to come and get it. There was no way they were going to take stuff from a secured vault situation and display it everyday like Disneyland for us mousketeers. Great wishful thinking but I didn't see it happening. Kelle and Kelly may have been for it but not the other half.

I'd like to go on record as saying that I never really supported the idea of a Randy museum. History has shown time and again people handle Randy's legacy with terrible conduct, you only have to look at the history of his grave site, or what happened to his PDV when it was first on display. It's a good idea in theory, letting fans get a look at some Randy memorabilia, and for free too, don't get me wrong, I'd kill to see that especially in the company of the members of this board.

But all I seen when I saw the original announcment was opportunity for more disrespect to his legacy, imagine all the random staff shifting whatever items were going to be in this museum, the possibility of theft etc etc.

I support 100% the desicion the Rhoads family have come to, to stop this museum idea. Delores handles her sons legacy with such dignity.

cones, my man, you show wisdom beyond your years. kudos to you. no offense, but a "museum", consisting of reproduction guitars, photos, and the the zeus practice amp, sounds a bit cheesy, don't you think?

It wouldn't be a good idea if it was all reproductions. I was assuming these items were to be original artifacts. Maybe I misunderstood.

I believe his guitar was slightly damaged by the direct sunlight when it was first on display and employees were handling the guitar. It was mentioned on this forum before. You might be able to find the original thread.

I think it really wasn't the event of sunlight in Cleveland in 98. I saw it last year and it didn't look as bad as it was filmed in the Japanese Doc. I think the paint that was used polyurethane I am guessing and being 25 years later had more to do with it. You can only see the lines in the glare otherwise straight on it's not bad. The dots have yellowed.

Right on! No museum. Isn't that what Musonia has been. Never been and envy those that have. When I was young, probably a year or two after Randy passed, went to Disneyland with my parents and drove around looking forward. More recently, drove past but didn't have the guts to go in.
Starting to admire Delores as much or more than Randy. Keep a bit of mystery in the game.

Just give him a pm and he'll tell you.

All I'm going to say is Steve needs a life.

The more I hear about the Rhoads family and how they carefully handle Randy's legacy, the more I understand why Randy was such a classy, humble guy.

A museum on the surface soudned nice, but it would have been a huge mistake.

Hats off to the Rhoads family for yet again doing it right.

Really wasn't so much as them doing right but more along the lines of sabotage.

I totally agree.....but..........

I get the feeling it was delores (and kathy) who pulled the plug......which suggests to me that kelly R was all for it (why would you announce it to the world and then change your mind???) My concern is when Dee is no longer with us things may change for the worse.....from the clips I have seen online kelli G seems to be able to get kelly R to do what ever he wants him to (i'm not bagging either kelly, but its how it looks from a distance).....hopefully kathy takes full control of randy's legacy so it doesn't just become a free for all

I would recommend a pm to electric angel to hear the other side; there are always two sides to every story after all.

I don't know. On one hand I want to believe you because you are a trusted person, but on the other hand, I've heard some nasty things about Steve, and he seems to have a hard time taking criticism which only adds to his stories being less believable. I've heard people get banned from RRUS for saying something on a different site.

I want to believe you, Frank, because like I said, you are a trusting person. You've never (To my knowledge) lied to us here at TK, but the same could be said about Kelly Garni. Kelly was a highly respected person here before Steve started posting all this nonsense about Garni "bashing us" and "wanting to milk Randy's name."

I don't know. I'm kind of trailing off here, so forgive me. I'm tired.

I just want to know why there's so much hate and, as Sear said, "Cloak and Dagger" about Randy's legacy? This guy who is often regarded as a "Saint" by the people who were closest to him, has a legacy that is so tarnished by people trying to cash in on his name, or use Randy's name to make a name for themselves. Why?

Like I said, I'm tired so I'm sorry for the rambling here.

i don't know where steve comes into this. he certainly doesn't influence the family. i spoke to kathy last week while she was deliberating the endorsement. she had very strong feelings on the subject and wanted a sounding board.

as a friend of the family for some 32 years, some would consider me an 'outside influence', i guess. one things for sure. kathy knows her own mind. the family is very wary about lending their name to anything these days.

frank.

Over the last couple of years it's been very exciting with all this talk of box sets, documentaries, live studio banter, live Randy video concerts, ect... I don't know what might ever happen about all this, but I've concluded that there's enough with Blizzard, Diary, Tribute, and the few other snippets we've got to keep me pretty happy. There's enough there to keep Randy my favorite.

With all that said, I would love anything and everything new that we might get.

Although I have never been there yet I like that idea that someday I may be able to make it out to Musonia and visit. I can then see Randy's equipment, memorabilia, where he taught and get some real insight from people who truly knew and loved Randy!

For me this should always be the "museum". When someday Mrs. Rhoads leaves us it should be passed to Kelle and Kathy so they can keep his memory going. This is where Randy grew up and it means so much more then having a bunch of his stuff brought to a building and set up for display. Would if be the same if you took all the stuff in Graceland and set it up in some warehouse you could walk through?

Not wishing to be morbid; but in only 50-60 years the Rhoads family wont be here, most of us wont be here and there is the problem we, as in the living, must deal with; ie keeping the name Randy Rhoads in the public consciousness!

so yes, for me living today I agree, it seems a bit on the tacky side, a museum with polka dot guitars etc etc;
but for kids of the future, it is a decent way to keep his name alive in my opinion.

I don't think it is any more 'cheesy', tacky etc than owning signature gear and buying into that aspect of things.

Matt

Agree with you Matt.

I do see it from both sides though.

I do repsect - totally, what the Rhoads Family are doing - it is only natural to look after their family.

However, in the future as Matt has mentioned, unless there is footage, relics, signature models, audio and other exciting things, Randy will disappear into oblivion.

I know some of you will say that is not the case, but in reallity it will begin to happen.

The way people remember heros and great idols is by what they have done and more importantly by the things that are around to remember them by. If open doors keep on being closed, relics and artefacts kept hidden, it will entually get to the point that the memories will start to fade and the name of Randy will diminish.

Many, many of the greats (not just guitarists) are kept alive by the items, memorabilia and memories that are around. New footage being found, new recordings, photos etc this is what keeps them alive.

I sometimes feel that the Rhoads' family are being too over protective with regards to Randy. True - they dont owe the fans anything. But, the best way to remember Randy or anyone else in that matter is to keep their memory alive - not keep it hidden in a vault or a lockdown somewhere, where it is just gathering dust.

It should be gathering new fans, not purely dust.

I hope I havent offended anyone - just wanted to put my point of view across.
This is very difficult for the Rhoads' family. But I sometimes feel they do more harm than good in the name of Randy.

Why couldn't Musonia be the museum? Kathy and Kelle could either pass it down to their kids or to someone else they trust to keep his memory alive. Again I would much rather go to a museum where I could see the place Randy grew up learning to play himself and where he actually gave lessons. If the place eventually stopped being a actual working school they could renovate some of the rooms that had no significance to Randy and turn that into more display area's.

I agree there needs to be some type of place but Musonia would be the perfect place in my mind!
