I always found this an interesting topic, what vests he wore at what show.

Here's a couple of the outfits he wore at certain gigs on the Diary tour that I am 100% on. Note these photos are not (to my knowledge except Detroit) from the dates I gave, just as a guide to the outfit.

T.A. or anybody else that are positive on certain gigs let me know and I'll just add the dates to this post.

This is just the Diary tour, the Blizzard tours will be forthcoming.

My bad, I meant El Paso, not Beaumont. I changed it. Here's some shots from the show in a thread I did awhile ago. viewtopic.php?f=21&t=8111&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

Awesome post Iron! Thanks for clearing that up. Are these just the ones you and others know for now?

Oh and anyone have pictures from the Beaumont show?

Thanks. Yeah, there are others I know, but just have to dig through. As for Beaumont, I can't be sure if I've seen pics from the show or not as none are confirmed that I can recall, just the soundcheck footage which was in street clothes.

Cool info. 8) Thanks, Iron. I never really thought about how many non-polka dot outfits he had....

Yes, but since he go it right before the tour started he was still getting used to it and breaking it in so he wasn't using it at every gig. There's quite a few pictures of him playing it.

And it says Randy played it on "I Don't Know" I find that interesting since from some of the bootlegs I've heard, it goes straight out of GTR to I'm really not quite sure. And wasn't the Black Jackson tuned a half step down?

on a couple of the shows you can hear him unplug the guitar between GTR and I'm really not quite sure, so he was switching guitars

What bootleg?

And how many shows did the Diary tour not use the castle set? I'd figure it might help.

On some shows it sequed right from "Goodbye to Romance" into "I Don't Know" so those are the gigs he played the Les Paul on "I Don't Know". However there are a few shows where "Goodbye To Romance" just ends and Ozzy talks for a second and those are where Randy probably used the black Jackson. Granted, we assume the black Jackson was used on "I Don't Know" specifically from some photos that show Randy's fingers in the right places in "I Don't Know" but, yeah, he was probably just trying it out on some songs to see how it sounded.

It constantly amazes me the vast amount of knowledge possessed by the members of this site. I thought I knew a lot about Randy...but nothing compared to this.

I mean for someone to suggest that Randy *may* have switched guitars for a song (COTG, 12.31.81) because a whammy is present...just stuns me. Keen ears indeed.

Incredible amount of knowledge here.

As always, Iron is very thorough. However, I have been having a difficult time finding note of the black vest with the red piping RR wore during DOTG. Rumor has it that he split the matching pants during the show and photog Ross Halfin has a shot of RR laughing as a result.

Anthony, any of this hold water? Has the black vest w/red piping been accounted for?

Your infinite knowledge would be appreciated.

To be honest I only remember seeing those pants with the red piping that one time and I kind of am only going by the vests. I am pretty sure the vest was the same one we before he split his pants. (Or did the vest have red in it too? :? If so that's another one) I would think (hope! ) he had more than one pair of black pants to go with the different black vests that he used.

If you look closely to the DOTG pics, you'll see the vest has red piping down the side seam as well as around the arm holes. The pants obviously are different in different shots since one pair has red piping and the other pair doesn't.

It's a ton of minutia, and may not be very important in the grand scheme of things. I just thought it was an interesting detail that some might enjoy. Especially since the picture shown above was supposed to be RR's fave and the pants splitting incident was amusing.

I have only seen the red piping vest at DOTG and was wondering if it appeared anywhere else.

Maybe Randy discarded the entire outfit once the pants blew out. I know I'd probabaly not trust a repair if my backside was at risk in front of thousands of people.

Thanks for the input, guys.
