Thanx alot ReconMan! I added the link to me playing the solo to "Crazy Train" on YouTube. Here it is also though (why not)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CEnEzeTcVc (it's pretty sloppy, I was just checking if my camera and software was working, and then all my buddies liked it and I got some pretty positive feedback on it, so I lay out here naked for all to hear! LOL)

Ok, I thought Valentine's day would be good for this one! I just laid down my take on the solo for "Goodbye to Romance" and I used that great backing track from Guitar Techniques! (Thanx Matt!)

Hi Michael

That was really nailed! You really caught the sound and feel of the Blizzard recording. The playing and phrasing was so smooth. I know what is so hard about Randy's music is that what may sound 'laid back' is often the hardest to reproduce...but you really did a trememndous job. I think this is my favourite of your solos...and the Michael signature tone was there in abudance...I love yor tone.

Excellent work 8)

Hey thanks alot Matt, I really prepared myself in anticipation of that wonderful backing track you sent me! That is my first mix using the Lexicon reverb in my PRE-Mix stage!

Well I have been slowly learning the in's and out's of my multi-tracking software since I have been making my recordings here (I never used it until I joined the board.. LOL) and Lexicon reverb unit and I did a full RE-DO of "Bark at the Moon" and I feel it is 100 times better than my old mix..

Hi Michael

Glad you liked the backing track. The only thing I am not keen on is that there is playing on the clean parts. I wish they had left it completely blank with bass and drums.

Ok, I did a RE-DO of "I Don't Know" with a clean interlude and some overdubs floating around in the interlude.. I really had trouble blending my two tones for this and it shows, but it's pretty much what I could do. Any recording tips on this kind of thing would be really appreciated thanx.. Oh yeah, Enjoy! :)

Hi Michael

Nice solid work as usual. It is hard getting the balance right. I am probably a bit too black and white. When the clean comes I just bang the clean channel and switch back to overdrive before the solo.

It worked though, and it worked very well. It sounds to my ears more hopeful and upbeat with the slightly distorted guitar fills. When it's clean I think it is almost melancholy.

Nice tone 8)

Hey thanks Matt, I've always liked a clean tone on the interlude on that song myself.

Ok, now for something a little different! I recorded my take on the solo to "Over the Mountain" and I don't use a tremolo so I came up with this little ascending tapping lick at the end and I recorded octaves apart at the beginning like on DOAM! Hope it is not too out of text for this solo, cause I don't have an axe with a tremolo to do the end right. Let me know what you guys think, Enjoy (I also play OTM in standard tuning because that is the way I learned it 18 years ago... LOL people watch me play it and say WTF! LOL) so I am doing all of it WAY different than most

Hi Michael

Again nice work. You are so dedicated with great new additions arriving all the time! Also every version it's own sound and style.

One of my heroes the Pianist Glen Gould had a philosophy that if you were going to interpret someone elses work then it was only worth doing if it was different...thus validating it as a worthwhile new addition.

I really dug your new addition and again so, so fresh and full of vitality.

Cheers Matt

Thank you Matt (I like Glen's motto.. it is deffinately a good one)

Well I was horsing around with my GK250 amp and it has what Gallien Krueger calls a stereo chorus built into it but it sounds more like a flanger so I call it a stereo flange LOL .. anyhow I laid down the first solo in Dire Straits' "Sultans of Swing". I doubled the guitar tracks one with the flanger and one without and then ran the signals through a lexicon reverb unit.. I hope you guys like it.. It is pretty much the solo but the tone is completely different!

I just came by to give your stuff a listen.....WOW!!! Great stuff man! I'm really impressed! I loved the Sultans of Swing solo with the added distortion. It gave it such a different vibe. The Randy stuff was spot on too!! Thanks for sharing bro. You're quite talented! :D =D>

Thank you very much everyone... I woke up this morning and was happy to see 3 new listeners to my playing.. It really has made my day.. *r*

I've been working on finishing up a double track solo to "Flying High Again" and I am going to do the outro solo for "Sultans of Swing" because of the positive feedback I got on the first one.. (I was kind of leary about doing such a distorted and effected signal on such a clean original Knopfler solo!)

Ciao,
Mike

Thanks MattC.. that is one of my all time favs.. I have to say, Randy is my guitar "idol" but Jake has the most beautiful and luxurious vibrato I've ever heard in a rock guitar player, I've tried to get that kind sound with my vibrato too, I hope it's working.. LOL

Ciao,
Mike

I was messing around with my effects units again and I recorded a tune I wrote years ago (about an old girlfriend) but played on an electric and with so much processing on it I now have named it "Christmas Tyme" I double 2/3 of the song to add body and a shimmeryness to it.. Enjoy

Hi Mike

Great new stuff since I dropped by last. You looking At Me was just amazing,

Iy was great to see how you play too and what is physically behind your sound, ie your technique.

Loved your phrasing and the way you got every ounce of juice out of each note...well done :!: :!: :!:

I recorded a double track take on the solo in "Believer" I learned this song virtually by ear probably 15 years ago, I never have found a transcription that sounds correct to me, but I did take what few parts that did sound correct to me and touched up my take on it.. It is at the top of the thread. Enjoy

Just listened to your stuff, and it sounds great! There were a few things that really stuck out for me. The emotion on GTR was very thick. I could feel that you were pouring yourself into it. OTM was by far my favorite. I really like how you subsituted the tremolo stuff, it didn't lose any flavor, in fact you added some. In I'm really not quite sure, I really liked the bends and vibrato. It was very Randyesque. And, last but not least, BATM was great. After hearing all of your Randy solos, I could hear the Jake vibe stand out strong. You did very well capturing the essence of the solo and his playing while still putting your own stamp on it. I really liked it. You rock pretty hard there Dik. Keep them coming.

Dave

Hey thanks for giving my playing a listen Dave I really appreciate it! It made me feel good to hear you say I captured Jakes vibe on BATM, it has always been one of my favorite solos and Jake is my vibrato mentor.

Kevin and Matt, I thank you, my guitars thank you and my little dog thanks you too.. LOL No really thanks alot you guys, your input has given me alot of playing confidence back and I needed it!

I guess making the big move inspired me to get some recording done (I bet having my recording rig and all of my guitars back with daddy safe and sound had something to do with it too..LOL) I had been struggling with doing an alright double track take of Flying High Again so I took what I had, layered another rythym guitar track in there and then I decided to record 2 fresh takes on the lead.. I am OK with what I got here, but I feel a re-do in the future. Enjoy

It is only really good players who are so humble like you Mike...oppositely 99 percent of the time over confidence and arrogance usually indicates musical and character weekenss.

Looking forward to more DemonDik renditions!! :D
