Ah what the hell... send me some too! I'm curious to see what he had in store. Guessing mainly pentatonic scales mixed with the modes.

As for the original question, Randy used the Dorian mode a lot, the Harmonic minor scale, Pentatonic minor scales... he was brilliant at making cool runs out of arpeggiated chords. He also liked to use inversions of chords rather than the straight version of the chord.

A search of this sight will bring up a lot of information on this subject.

I think that studying the solos for Mr.Crowley and his Spotlight Solo, Over The Mountain and maybe 1 or 2 more gives a good idea of scales and shapes he used...

Very true...

I once broke down both solos in Mr. Crowley measure by measure. I determined the notes in each measure (using PowerTab) and then figured out what scale contained those notes. It was a very enlightening experience.

Try going here - pick a key(G, D, A, etc.) and look at Harmonic Minor, Dorian Mode and Pentatonic Minor.

Have you all heard from CROWLEY with this article? If not, PM me with your email and the subject "scales" and I'll email it tonight.

I'm busy, so the offer will last until Thursday 10 November...

That will be unlikely because this is over 4 years old.
