Im glad it provided some humor then  Iron, not the place for it, but since the VH tour kicks off Monday, can we have a review section in "other bands" for reviews from anyone who may attend? I am definitly going... most likely to the MSG show here in the NY area, and would like to check out some reviews. Hopefully by the time they get to NY in november, they will still be getting along [-o<

I don't see why not. Couple people put up reviews (first hand or newspapers) in past. I just got my VH tickets for VH on November 1.

Hey Iron, can we still ask you questions? If so then heres a couple.

1. What was the original name of Van Halen?
2. What guitar was used on Hot For Teacher?
3. What is Eddies full name?
4. Name all the Van Halen albums in chronological order (with the years included).

Because with the loss of Cliff Burton less thought was given to the bass in the mix with Lars and Jason basically was doubling James rhythms and James's frequencies were a higher priority.

1. Mammoth, though other names considered before calling themselves Van Halen were Rat Salad (after the Black Sabbath song) and Daddy Long Legs (suggested by Gene Simmons when he did their demo).

2. Eddie's Gibson Flying V I'm pretty sure.

3. Edward Lodewijk Van Halen

4. Name the albums? :? Come on, you can do better than that. Step it up. Try Wikepedia.

Haha okay Iron. Won't bother to ask and Randy or Ozzy related questions.

1. Name the names of the creators of these companies

Fender

Gibson

Rickenbacker

Jackson if that is the name of the creator

2. Has there ever been a guitar that has a bass and a guitar connected?

3. What was the first Gibson made out of and describe it's details.

4. Who played the "You Really Got Me Solo" by The Kinks?

Adolph Rickenbacker
Grover Jackson

2. Yes.

3. Uh, wood and strings? WTF? I'm not a guitar spec expert. I know he started out making mandolins.

4. Jimmy Page suppossedly.

For the record, OTS, Iron's specialty is hard rock/metal trivia, not manufacturing or other non-related items.

Number one correct, Number 2 correct, Number 3 Correct! Number four... I heard it was Eric Clapton.

It was like a mandolin made like a Les Paul and a guitar. I don;'t know how you got that right.

Oh sorry I forgot that some people only know more about Rock On this forum. Haha I love every genre. Always loved blues, old rock, new rock, metal, classical, etc.

It was Dave Davies. Jimmy Page had been long-rumoured to have played it but has always denied it. Never heard Clapton linked to it.

I gave my specialty and that's what it is. And there's a difference between "knowing more about" something and "loving genres". I'm sure you love (or say you love) a lot more stuff than you know alot of stuff about. :P If you've got a legitimate question that you can't find online yourself about my specialty ask it, but don't waste your time (and mine) trying to play "Stump Iron" by asking me what type of laquer is used in the finish of a 1964 guitar played only once by Bo Diddly on his birthday.

Everythings right except the first. The first name Eddie, Alex and the original bass player used was Genesis. Then one day Eddie walked into a record store saw Nursery Cryme on the new release shelf.

A few more

1. Who was Van Halen's original bass player & who was the original singer?
2. What year is quarter on Ed's Frankenstrat?
3. What song for Kiss did Ed do a solo for?
4. What band did Slash tryout for before joining G'N'R?

Okay, I thought you wanted the original name of Van Halen. Genesis was an early band in high school that Eddie & Alex used to play in briefly. There was also the Trojan Rubber Company and The Space Brothers. I don't consider those as Van Halen. So that's a technicality.

1. Well again we're going by technically when 'Van Halen' became Van Halen, but Eddie used to sing before they got Roth. Mark Stone was their last bass player before Michael Anthony.

2. Don't understand the question. :? Again, I'm not too up on years and specs on guitars for the most part.

3. Eddie played solos on some demos for Kiss but his cuts never made the final product. I know "Christine Sixteen" was one for sure.

4. You must be talking about his Poison tryout.

Finally two. *yay* Jimi only had one #1 song it was "All Along the Watchtower"

Alright the bands name is Mayhem there a black metal band for norway involed in all those church burnings. Heres the singer's (Dead) story.

On 8 April 1991, Dead committed suicide in the house owned by the band. He was found by Euronymous with slit wrists and a shotgun round to the head. Dead's suicide note read "Excuse all the blood" and included an apology for firing the weapon indoors. Instead of calling the police, Euronymous went to a nearby store and bought a disposable camera to photograph the corpse, after re-arranging some items. One of these photographs was later stolen and used as the cover of a bootleg live album entitled Dawn of the Black Hearts.
Eventually, rumors surfaced that Euronymous made a stew with pieces of Dead's brain, and made necklaces with fragments of Dead's skull. The band later stated that the former rumor was false, but that the latter was true. Additionally, Euronymous claimed to have given these necklaces to musicians he deemed worthy.

Heres the guitarist (Aarseth) story

On August 10, 1993, Varg Vikernes of Burzum murdered Aarseth. On that night, Vikernes and Snorre Ruch travelled from Bergen to Aarseth’s apartment in Oslo. Upon their arrival a confrontation began, which ended when Vikernes fatally stabbed Aarseth. His body was found outside the apartment with twenty-three cut wounds – two to the head, five to the neck, and sixteen to the back.
It has been speculated that the murder was the result of a power struggle, a financial dispute over Burzum records, or an attempt at "out doing" the stabbing in Lillehammer. Vikernes claims that Aarseth had plotted to torture him to death and videotape the event – using a meeting about an unsigned contract as a pretext. On the night of the murder, Vikernes claims he intended to hand Aarseth the signed contract and "tell him to f**k off", but that Aarseth attacked him first. Additionally, Vikernes defends that most of Aarseth’s cut wounds were caused by broken glass he had fallen on during the struggle.
Regardless of the circumstances, Vikernes was arrested within days, and a few months later was sentenced to 21 years in prison for both the murder and church arsons. In a controversial display, Vikernes actually smiled at the moment his verdict was read, an image that was widely reprinted in the news media.

Finally two. *yay* Jimi only had one #1 song it was "All Along the Watchtower"

*? Where did you get that info? Where was it #1? I just researched it now and see it hit #5 in the UK and only reached #20 on the Billboard chart, while "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" hit #1 in the UK.

Oh and I don't know much trivia about black, death, goth, nu, grindcore, cyber, etc, metal. My forte' is old school.
Its was on a VH1 One Hit Wonders special. They said "even though Jimi's only #1 song was watchtower he wasnt just an average OHW" something like that. Yeah I dont listen to black metal too much but I read a very interesting book on it. Its called True Norwegian Black Metal.

Unless all the other statistics are wrong they got it wrong. "Voodoo Chile" was #1 in the UK, but not AATW.

Say, Iron, do you know why the bass is so low on the Justice album?

Because with the loss of Cliff Burton less thought was given to the bass in the mix with Lars and Jason basically was doubling James rhythms and James's frequencies were a higher priority.

Thanks, Iron!

Actually, Euronymous was going to eat it, but never did. He took photos and made necklaces though. Varg, the bassist, then killed him 2 years later. But it was done in self-defense since Euronymous was planning to tie him to a tree, film it all, and torture him to death. To put things into perspective, no one in Mayhem mourned Euronymous, and Maniac (the now ex-vocalist), frequently wears Burzum t-shirts (Varg's band).

If people have questions on death metal, we can start an "Ask Alex" section -- Alex the Swede is the man on that topic!! *yay*
