I thought it would be a good idea if we could put an MP3 thread on this site, mainly for rarities, if so, that would be a great thing to have, just a thought.

(I apologize if this post just seems like pure ignorance)

It would be great to have that, but I would rather have rare material like the " Over the mountain live " than having downloads that we all have on a cd.

I say nay,

Who's going to pay for the hosting and bandwidth? Who's going to pay when $haron O$bourne comes knockin' with a lawsuit or the RIAA comes after us?

Not me.

Nice thought though. :)

I visit the MP3 thread @ classicvanhalen.com a lot. It seems to workout well there, until the bandwidth gets exceeded. They have lots of good stuff. I don't have a lot of VH rarities, so I get good use out of it. If there was a thread here I don't know how often I'd use it, unless there were some worthy upgrades. Unfortunately, the cost of bandwidth would be an issue.

Im really undecided. It seems pointless to download things we all have on cd's already. And if I was wanting a new bootleg I wouldnt want to have to download it song by song unless the whole show was being hosted (I dont know which would be the case) and larz, Sharon cant really do anything if its only bootleg trading (as far as mp3's go) can she? And bsides we already have a bootleg and trades section. So its just too wide open for me.

I think it's a great idea and it would be real good for people like me who don't have very good access to boots and such. Oh btw it would be good if there was like a standard like format for the post and no chit chat. Something like the the song - the artist(s) - maybe stories behind it? just my insight cheers

If you keep it legal with only non-official stuff, that's ok.

I don't think there really is any rare official stuff except for the first two QR albums. But I highly doubt someone is going to bitch about that.

As for Ozzy stuff, I think the only official thing that's rare is the Live EP and the Crazy Train and Diary Of A Madman Singles. Which are extremely rare too. I think tha twould be alright.

Isn't this close to what you are wanting?

Why not set up a way to help cableguy out with PayPal donations or something?

Well thank you 8) That's a right nice idea. The DVD's I was selling paid for the current hosting, but I run out of bandwidth at the end of every month. There's also the problem of people Hot Linking the downloads and using them on their ownsite. I just found a guy doing this recently. Also, anyone from the web could do a google search and find the mp3 files, so the bandwidth would really have to be increased. I think Metal-Matt had a great idea, in that, instead of having streamable media on my(and others) site, I will put the entire show in a zip file and then make that available for download. That will save on the bandwidth being used over and over again just playing the songs. If I don't do the DVDs anymore, I was actually considering a PAYPAL button on the site. Thanks for reminding me

darin, I support you my brother :) ...I know that me personally (I) would gladly donate gradually to enable you to keep up with bandwidth. And if a lot of people are interested, then everyone wont have to pay much at all. And the zip file is a great idea. Then when someone gets done with it they can just unzip it how they want it and go from there. Since the ftp thing here is pretty much dead, this seems the only logical way for a lot of us to get some good bootlegs.
