Just learning a bit about Rory. Oh my, how nice it is to learn new and interesting things.

A clip of him playing an acoustic number, "To Much Alcohol":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1zsRRt1FWE&feature=related

If nothing else watch the clip to see him tune his guitar for open tuning. This is the second time in history that I know of a man "got the gig" just by tuning. *0

Rory totally rocks. 8) He doesn't get the acclaim he deserves. I had several of his releases on vinyl and LOVED them -- my favorite being "Deuce" from 1971 (well worth checking out). *r*

Fun story: I searched in vain for years for "Deuce" on CD and could never find it. :( Last summer, we did the family vacation and went to the San Juan Islands, which is a string of islands in the northern Puget Sound between Canada and Washington that you get to by taking a car ferry about an hour north of Seattle. Back to nature, very rustic. :D We were staying on Orcas Island, which has one tiny village and a population of less than 1,000 people. There was one used book store and they also had a few used CDs in shoeboxes on the counter and what should I find there but a re-release of "Deuce" on CD on Little Buddha Records from the late 80s. That was one very worthwhile $8 souvenir from that trip!!

Rory is an absolute hero/legend on this land. You can't sling an axe without a few hundred people asking you about Rory Gallagher.

And I wouldn't change it for the world, an absolutely awesome musician.

Rory Gallagher is amazing to say the least!! Check out the live version of "In Your Town." That song blows me away every time. I love this guy's voice too. It so sad that he didn't get the recogntion he deserved. It's also sad that he is no longer with us. Thank for sharing this clip with us, Dan. :)

Inspired by this thread I've just put on the Big Guns double album.
Thanks, Danno, it'd been awhile.

Rory Gallagher is the man, moonchild and shadow play are two of my personal favorites. It's ironic that he wrote a song entitled too much alcohol....

*r* Here's Rory playing In Your Town. *r* The slide work on this songs is killer. *r* I love the audio version of this song that's on his album Live In Europe. It's much better than this! *r* Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75aJIDqTYsQ

I've been a huge Rory fan for the last 25 years. I was lucky enough to see him at the Newcastle City Hall in 1987 (also met him at a signing at HMV the following day).

Jacques Stotzem does a nice solo instrumental cover of Moonchild on his latest CD. Its great to hear someone covering Rory.
