:? I don't think you've heard that many Kiss solos. But seriously, the "solo" in that is just a short harmonized line and barely a solo and while memorable in the context of the song I don't think Ace put too much into it.

I have heard a lot of Kiss solos IMHO. I just love that solo. :P

I was talking to my dad yesterday (whos been a kiss fan since the '74), and were discussing kiss after I had brough up the discussion on the previous page. Im pretty sure Rick and some of the other hardcore or once hardcore kiss fans would agree that either the 70's or the reunion tour were great times to be a kiss fan. That stands true to me. Seeing them on the reunion tour was probably one of the best experiences of my life. I knew what is was like to experience what thousands of people in the 70's experience did. My dad wasnt fortunate enough to see then in their 70's heyday, but it was a great moment for him too.

It was great to see them having the success that they had in that time, given that they hadnt been relevant in music for sometime prior to that. Its sad to see the state now though and thats been discussed. I just think back and it was a great time to be a kiss fan, and I feel bad for anyone who never got to experience what I did 12 years ago.

I never was much a Kiss fan really, but in 1996 I got tickets and saw them on their very first Reunion Tour (there were more to follow).

They were at Reunion Arena (what a coinsidence) in Dallas. But I must say it was a good show. And they played good too. It was like seeing them in 1976 or something.....the big Kiss logo in lights behind the stage, Ace shooting fireworks out near his guitar headstock, Gene playing his bass solo up high on a platform and spitting 'blood'. Paul smashing a guitar (that hopefully was trash anyway)...etc. etc.

And people in the crowd were dressed up like members of the band in costume and makeup...like it was a Halloween party or something. I was curious about what the 'Kiss Reunion Tour' was all about, and wanted to see for myself. Afterwards, I still was not a Kiss fan...but I have to say they put on a good show.

Yes, for hardcore fans there were 3 amazing KISStory moments for old-time fans after Ace and Peter left:

1. KISS unplugged on MTV with the originals coming out to perform.
2. KISS appearing in full makeup at an awards show to give an award with Tupac.
3. The reunion tour in 96-97.

After the Farewell tours of 2000-01, they became a farce when they didn't really say farewell and started putting Eric and Tommy in the legendary makeup.

Now is a pretty good time for long time fans for the reason that Tommy has pushed them to learn songs they've never played live. They appear to take requests from the audience now. That's a tight band.

I saw them in '79 on the Dynasty tour. They were so slicked and polished at that point I'd honestly prefer to see the current lineup. It's a different band plain and simple - the "ultimate KISS cover band". Eric and Tommy have always brought their A game along so for that I'll always give them kudos. I love most incarnations of KISS.

All four "members" of KISS have posted messages on the band's website about the new album which is now finished recording. Even Eric and Tommy each sing lead on a song.

As jaded as I am about two original members and two scabs recording this together as "KISS" I must say I'm intrigued, mainly because Paul Stanley kept control over the project and he's the only one in the band that has had any musical integrity for more than a decade now. So, we'll see. Here are the posts from Paul and Gene:

MESSAGE FROM PAUL

THIS IS KISS. CLASSIC KISS!

If you been reading KISSONLINE, it's no surprise to you now. We ARE done recording our new album.

What might well be a surprise is that at the least, the album is right up there with our best. As much as we may have tried at some other times to achieve this, the chemistry, line-up or lack of total commitment from everyone might have been cause for it being impossible. Not now. Not this time.

I know that when you hear it you will agree.

Before we began the album, I said I was only interested in doing it if I produced and we followed set ground rules; Total commitment by everyone, pure guitar driven KISS, no outside writers, no outside players and my opinion and say would always be final.

All said yes and I know we'd all say we've never had more fun together.

All four of us made this our priority. Everyone was involved everyday. From the first day of writing to the last day of recording everyone was there giving 100% to making this the album we knew we had in us. I've never seen Gene more selfless (yes...Gene!), focused or harder working. His bass playing, songs and overall contribution help to make this the album you've wanted for so long. Without his spirit, this wouldn't have been possible.

As far as Tommy's guitar playing, he took this chance at bat to consistently hit it out of the park. His playing is fiery and rooted firmly in our history, while making his own mark. Tommy's singing, writing contributions and total involvement made clear what's been missing for so long.

In the twenty years I've known Eric, I've never seen him this relaxed or creative. His playing is the foundation of our next step forward. Relentless and full of spit and swagger. Many lead singers don't have Eric's chops or range. He's singing great on his track and all over the album.

Wait till you hear what we've got for you.

Do I sound proud of everyone and what we've done together? I am, and I should be.

Eleven songs. Eleven winners.

This IS KISS. Classic KISS.

It's been a long time coming.

PAUL

MESSAGE FROM GENE

BEST KISS ALBUM IN 30 YEARS!

Our new album (title of which you'll just have to wait a bit longer for) is just a few steps from being completely done. We're planning on re-visiting one of the eleven songs, to make sure it's gotten everything it deserves. Maybe re-arranging it one last time. Then, time to mix.

The entire writing and recording process of the album harkened back to an earlier, more innocent time. A time that produced albums such as ROCK AND ROLL OVER and LOVE GUN. And, the new songs have that feeling, I have to say.

It all started with a point of view Paul had. The view had to do with ignoring the times, ignoring the critics, not over thinking who and what we are...and that we had nothing to prove to anyone....nothing. We have been releasing albums and touring for 35 years and why wouldn't we want to do an "honest" record. Just do it!!! And, he wanted to produce the album himself!!!

While it's true in the past we had produced KISS records together. And we had both produced other acts outside of KISS. But here was Paul saying he wanted to shoulder the responsibility and burden of steering the good ship KISS on his own.

He was serious. And, I saw it was real. I saw the commitment he was going to make to the album and the band... and I agreed. We all trusted each other and saw the same vision of the band...and perhaps democracy is overrated...and sooner or later, someone had to decide.

And I will tell you here and now, he's done a great job.

The process of writing songs involved both writing separately, but often, in hotel rooms and rehearsal halls, literally starting from scratch and throwing riffs and chords at each other. Then working on melody and lyric...starting alone, then bringing it into the rehearsal halls and even during recording, we would often critique the lyrics all the way down to the last minute.

Tommy really stepped up in the songwriting area....co-wrote some songs with us and actually sings his first song on a KISS album.

Eric, likewise was always encouraging and of course, provided his always dependable bombastic drumming style. But unlike other drummers, Eric is also a great singer. Wait until you hear him tear it up on his lead vocal.

What else, you ask?

Well, Paul and I trade vocals on a few tunes and had a lot to say about each other's songs...

Result? Maybe the best record we've done in 30 years.

Bold statement? You bet.

Wait till you hear it.

GENE

Kind of makes you wonder if Paul decided to produce because they couldnt find anyone wiling to produce them. That and makes you wonder how much of the bass parts Gene played because hes been known to be a lazy asshat sometimes

I'm surprised to hear you say that Derek. I don't think Kiss would have any trouble finding a producer. I bet Rick Rubin would have taken them on for one last album like the Johnny Cash stuff he did.

Gene has been distracted by Hollywood and always by making $$ but he usually has brought the goods bass chops-wise. Some of his tunes have been lame for sure but Paul has written a few stinkers too.

I wouldn't accuse Gene of ever being lazy. Distracted yes, lazy no.

Looking forward to hearing what they come up with. For the record I thought Psycho Circus was a pretty solid effort.

If Rick Ruben would have produced it, I probably would be a little more on board. He does wonders for peoples careers. Psycho Circus wasnt bad..decent but it wasnt all the original members playing on all the tracks..Hit and miss songs but decent effort. Dont get me wrong, ill check it out and see what its like when it comes out

From the Facebook page for Guitar Player magazine about KISS' new upcoming CD:

"Heard 5 songs. If you dig KISS, you're gonna dig this new album. Paul sings his ass off. Eric plays some amazingly powerful drums. Gene was finally made to play all of his bass parts (apparently, in the past, if someone had a cool bass idea, he let them play it), and he DOES have a pretty driving sound. Finally, Paul and Tommy's guitars sound HUGE -- with some fab riffs and '70s-style solos."
