Actually I don't think it's bad at all. I like it much better than some of the versions I've heard of the singer singing old Alice songs over the last year. It totally sounds like AIC with the music and the vocals (excepting a few minor sections)-very Layne-ish. I'll have to spin it a few more times and absorb it all some more.

I've always found AIC way to droney, and uninteresting. Sounds like AIC to me :D

No really, that last song sounds like the guitarist is tuning his guitar in and out.

The new album is absolutely amazing. I was completely floored after I listened to it. Jerry poured his heart and soul all over it. The new guy complements him nicely.

Private Hell is an instant classic. AIC to the core. It's almost like you can hear Layne mixed in there if you listen closely to the verses.

This album should prove to those how much AIC really was and is Jerry's baby. Not too take anything away from Layne, because he is a legend and was a driving force in the band in his own right. I just think it's an awesome way to start a new era. I almost wanted to cry when I listened to the last song (the title track). What a beautiful tribute to a fallen friend.

I have been waiting for this album since I saw AIC open up for Velvet Revolver in Sept 2007 when I saw them in Tucson, AZ.

AIC was 10 times better that the drugged out lead singer of V.R. (AKA....Scott Weiland). William DuVall is NOT Layne Staley, and does NOT claim to be, but that is OK. There was, and will only ever be one Layne Staley.

Now, moving on to the new album BGWTB. I loved this album from the first note of the first song. True, Jerry handles alot of the lead vocals on this recording, as well as the majority of the lead vocals on the final AIC studio album with Layne, the self titled recording 'Alice in Chains'......also known as 'Tripod'. There are some haunting vocal parts in some of these new track's where you could swear that Layne is in the studio and singing on this album. William DuVall's part's seem strong when he sings and I feel that he compliments Jerry as Layne did in the past. There will never be another Layne, the world lost a great vocalist when Layne passed away in April 2002. But, I am very happy that Jerry has it in him to continue with his band. Yes, this band is just as much his as it was Layne's, if not more!

I`m really digging the slower songs on here alot... especially "Your Decision"

They had a great producer for this.. same guy who did Rush`s last record.

I've never been an ALICE IN CHAINS fan... didn't care much for grunge (still don't). In March 09, I bought FACELIFT because my band was doing MAN IN THE BOX. I ripped that song, and never heard the rest of the album. I have to say I always thought MAN IN THE BOX was a great track... I love the solo in it.

Then a month ago, one of my bandmates said he wanted to do more AIC... so I bought a greatest hits (10 tracks) for like $7.99 off WALMART... heard it once in the car (with my wife... I played it low so I didn't get to hear much of it at my preferred volume) and was surprised at how many of the songs I was familiar with. I liked the acoustic tracks... but mostly, I liked the dual singing / harmonies. Very well done.

I saw BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE at Target... and bought it as an impulse buy 'bout a week ago. I had read a few articles on Jerry Cantrell on the web.. and was interested in hearing the new stuff.

I was FLOORED!!!

I heard it ALL THE WAY THROUGH at a great volume, and loved every second of it. It's permanently in my car now. In particular... I loved the singing on it. Someone else said Duvall doesn't do much lead singing on it... I think he sings lead on maybe two songs at the most. I expected to hear him more, based on what I've read... but man... Cantrell has a GREAT VOICE. I really liked his work on this album... and I'm glad he did the lion's share of the singing. Mostly, what Duvall does is back up the harmonies with Cantrell. These two guys sound GREAT together!! Duvall has a higher register, to my ears... his voice is not as deep as the original singer's... but it works in context. He has his own style. This album has the classic harmonies that I liked off the greatest hits I bought... but it is in many ways a bit dreamy.. almost in a Pink Floyd way. But still hard rock, with great guitars. The guitars sound great... the drums.. sound almost retro.... to the 80s. Very produced. But it works! The overall production, I thought... was fantastic. Some of the riffs I can hear in my head as I'm working throughout the day... especially that of the 2nd track. It's an scary, moody riff!

Admittedly... I'm not much a fan of mid-tempo songs... but every one of these I felt was fantastic. The slower tempos didn't bother me at all, because I was enjoying the package... the entire songwriting experience of listening to these songs. I REALLY REALLY love this album.

Because of it... I pulled out my copies of FACELIFT and the GREATEST HITS... and I've found I really enjoy them as well. I guess I've kind of figured out what they are about. I like it! I especially love the harmonies... that's their trademark.

I highly recommend this album!

Not only does this album sound very "Alice" to me even though Layne is gone but on track 6 it also sounds like Over The Mountain.. Check out track 6 "When The Sun Rose Again" . The songs are in the same key and have a similar intervalic chord structure. *r*

I've been playing the heck out of the new AIC CD. Definately a must listen to if you are a fan of theirs.
